Remember the hoops that appeared all over Maplewood lawns last spring?

They were part of the Maplewood Fourth of July art project sponsored by 1978 Maplewood Arts Center and Post 10120 VFW Maplewood.

This year instead of circles, we are using squares.

This workshop is the kickoff event for 2013.  We will fabricate frames, prepare canvas for use on the 4th of July, and distribute squares to anyone who wants one.

The goal of this recurring  annual outdoor art projects is to channel / focus energy from all over the community over a period of time - and then on the 4th bring it to fruition as a work of art.

In a way the project is a “play” on the concepts of time and space and a stretch of the word “spontaneity”. The squares are like pixels and they will form the walls of an ephemeral gallery that will ”live” a day or two, in July, in Maplewood Memorial Park.
